“Well. It’s the first day of the year.
Yesterday it was sunny, today is grey. Perhaps it is also raining soon.
In Viterbo, at 8, even the crows sleep. All grey.
No hot water this morning in the hostel.
For lunch, only three mandarins.
Davide and Giovanni already left as they have a long road to walk.
And f*** … it’s 2016! “
These are my first words in 2016 (Video).
2015 is now behind us.
I will travel solo almost the whole day, stopping here and there, music in the ear and absorbed gaze.
In a little fountain gushing crystal in San Martino al Cimino (Photo 1).
In a copper hug whilst I’m flying on the downhill towards Vico Lake (Photo 2).
On a placid wooded shore (Photos 3 and 4).
In Ronciglione, where I finish the last tangerine (Photo 5).
In Sutri (Photo 6), where the time comes to say goodbye to Giovanni, the pilgrim we met in Radicofani who quickly became a great friend.
And in front of Monterosi Lake (Photo 7), where we arrive late in the afternoon – me with a bike, Davide on foot an hour after me – in order to close the Via Francigena, tomorrow, in a last stage.
(At 5 pm – in the apartment we are staying in, B & B La Campana)
“Dado … here you are! Everything ok?”
“I’m dead tired, never walked 45 km in a day before! And how damn hungry I am now …!”
“Don’t tell it, I only had 3 mandarins today! We should go out and buy something to cook by oursevles tonight …”
“Definitely!”
For dinner, salami, smoked cheese, pasta with tuna sauce (half a kilo in two), red wine, and then we turn on a TV after a week: with Mary Poppins before and Frozen after it, suddenly we go back to our childhood.
And, like children, already at 22 we fall asleep.
2016 … always better!
