Day 11, Folegandros – Milos (ITA – ENG)
Giornata interlocutoria.
Il traghetto per Milos spezza ogni programma possibile.
Saluto la bella Folegandros.
Piccola, silenziosa, verticale.
Mi mancheranno le sue spiagge nascoste, e le nudiste che vi si distendevano placide.
Dopo aver stretto qualche amicizia interessante, mi dispiace quasi andarmene.
Ma è tempo di cambiare isola.
Pressoché zero pedalate, tre ore di nave. Passo Kimolos, senza scendere.
La baia di Milos mi accoglie calma e languida.
Pomeriggio di riposo, in previsione di domani.
Ne approfitto per leggere, accorciarmi la barba, fare il bucato, correre in riva al mare.
Milos, si capisce subito, sarà molto diversa da Folegandros.
Ma promette bene.

The ferry to Milos leaving in the morning breaks every possible plan.
Farewell to beautiful Folegandros. Small, silent and vertical, this island conquered me.
I will miss the hidden beaches, and the nudist hot girls sunbathing on them.
I feel like guilty leaving it, for I even met some very interesting people.
But after 4 days it’s time to change island.
Spend around three hours on the boat, almost without riding my bicycle today.
Passing over Kimolos, without getting off.
Milos bay greats me calm and hot.
In the afternoon I’m taking some good time for me, chillin, reading, shaving, washing clothes, running along the seashore.
Milos will be way different from Folegandros, I’m sure of it.
But looks promising.

Day 11, Folegandros (ITA – ENG)
Folegandros è anche famosa per il monastero di KÃmisis tis Theotókou, che staglia bianco
sul lato orientale della scogliera su cui si affaccia Chora, la capitale dell’isola.
Una pedalata in Brompton fin lassù è d’obbligo.
Dalla guida che ho con me:
“La chiesa, che era parte di un convento di suore, sorge sul fianco scosceso di un colle piramidale con 360 Mt di scogliera
che digrada sul lato nord – ovest (ecco, più o meno quello che ho detto io, ma più palloso),
il luogo ideale per ammirare alcuni dei tramonti più spettacolari dell’Egeo”.
Senza fiato, in tutti i sensi, resto lassù due ore.
E scopro che tramonti + Cicladi non è solo Santorini.
Folegandros is also famous for the KÃmisis tis Theotókou monastery, which stands out white on the eastern side of the cliff where Chora, the capital of the island, lays.
I feel like going uphill with my Brompton.
My guide writes that from up there “you can admire some of the best sunrises of all the Aegean Sea”.
Breathless, in every possible way, I stay there around two hours.
And find out that sunrise + Cyclades ain’t mean only Santorini.
“Mi scusi, Signora, mi sa indicare dove si trova la panetteria?
Sono stufo di quegli stupidi pesci …”
“I’m sorry, Madame, do you know where I can find the bakery?
Fed up with those stupid fishes …”
Day 8, Folegandros (ITA – ENG)
Ieri sera un caro amico, forse sentendomi un po’ titubante, ha speso per me parole molto sagge:
“Ogni nuovo giorno, ogni volta che ci svegliamo, dovremmo dirci che bello, anche questa mattina mi sono svegliato!
Quindi devo passare questa giornata come se fosse la prima, o l’ultima.”
Mi sono svegliato sull’amaca, ovviamente con l’idea di trascorrerla come se fosse la prima.
Quando Folegandros (o, in italiano, Policandro) mi ha presentato le sue salite devastanti, ho temuto che potesse essere l’ultima.
Poi ho pregato.
Ed è stata di nuovo come la prima.
Yesterday a good friend of mine, maybe hearing me a little bit down, told me some special wise words:
“When the day begins, and we wake up another time, we should say how happy I am that I woke up again!
I should spend this new day like it was the first, or the last“.
Woke up in my hammock, obviously with the intention to spend it like it was the first.
As Folegandros showed me its terrific uphill roads, I started thinking it could be the last.
Then I prayed.
And it turned to be again like the first.
“Perché io … faccio quellochevvvoglio! “
“Cause I … I just do what the fuck I want to!”
